Hart Theatre
The EGG is a performing arts venue that has become one of New York’s Capital District icons due to its unusual shape and central location in the Empire State Plaza.
The Hart Theatre located inside the EGG, contains fifteen-tiered seating rows, and wraps around a dual hydraulic lift stage. The maximum seating capacity in the theatre is 982, which includes 18 seats in the special needs section located immediately behind the rail in the back.
With many people gathering at the Hart Theatre, ensuring that fire protection needs, and requirements are met is important to increase occupant safety. RAN Fire Protection Engineering was retained to evaluate the existing proscenium fire curtain of the stage at Hart Theatre, the existing escalator fire shutter, and the associated fly cable system. RAN provided recommendations and code compliance design options to increase the performance levels of the existing systems and increase safety.
